Letter from the Director

Slay Model Management’s doors in Los Angeles opened in 2016 and by doors I mean an old laptop at my then-studio apartment in Koreatown. I still vividly remember lining up at the business registrar’s office in Sacramento, CA  on the phone with my first model/muse/now friend, Arisce Wanzer going back and forth between possible names for the agency. After the third go around in line, Slay Model Management was the official name of the world’s first and only Trans-exclusive model agency.

In the beginning of opening Slay, there were no opportunities for Trans models. A lot of education had to happen, many awkward conversations, inter-community discourse, and the daily urge to school people on social media that Trans is beautiful. 

However, our story is not one of strife or victimhood, it is one of resilience, success and the importance of vigilance. 

Slay Model Management continues the legacy that was started by Tracey Africa, Caroline Cossey and Lauren Foster and other Trans models who have paved the way. We honor these amazing women by continuing to forge a fashion revolution by having more Trans models work in the fashion landscape.
